Breaking out the Birthday Loaf

Happy Birthday to us! Breaking Bread is turning one on Saturday, August 15 and we cannot wait to celebrate with you.

It has been a remarkable first year!  We are immensely grateful to our early champions, participants, our board members, and to the press for elevating our story.

Today’s Breadcrumbs is a celebration of our first year, sharing some highs and lows and asking you to celebrate with us in a few simple ways—without paying a dime.

Before we break out the birthday loaf, I’d like to acknowledge this hasn’t happened overnight and this wasn’t a cake walk. While you might have seen the news articles and positive testimonials, we have also had challenges to overcome.

We have experienced plenty of rejection and non-responsiveness along our journey. Rejection isn’t the end of the road. It isn’t uncommon for some to look for results before they buy into a new program. Not everyone is willing or able to embrace a new concept and advocate for change. In fact, there might be a dozen rejections before you get your first commitment and that is okay. I share this because that shouldn’t be the end of the world.

If it were easy, it would have been done. I guess that’s why the term, “breaking barriers” exists. Supporters like you can help us build the momentum, also without spending any money. You can help advance Breaking Bread’s mission of providing leadership development and mentorship that is affordable, convenient, and relevant by spreading the word.

As we celebrate our first year, here are a few milestones that we are grateful for:

  1. The first time someone offered to Pay it Forward and cover the program fee for those who don’t have the means.

  2. The first grant that engaged us to offer leadership development to nonprofit leaders, thanks to Collette Cares.

  3. Every single referral, participant testimonial and post sharing their Breaking Bread experience.

  4. Each of our 14 podcast guests breaking bread with us and sharing their leadership insights.

  5. Every blog, article, and podcast that shared our story. Thank you to Rhode Island Monthly for the first blog about Breaking Bread. Thanks to Hey Rhody and Providence Monthly for including us in the 2026 “Who to Watch” and the cover page that we will never forget. We appreciate "Spotlight New England" for having us on their show and we are grateful to The Boston Globe for our first newspaper article.

So, how can you help us celebrate?

Follow our journey on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. Subscribe to our podcast on YouTube. Share our participant testimonials and program posts with friends, team members or coworkers who have always wanted to grow but are hesitant to try.

Encourage someone to break bread with us because…

Nothing connects us like breaking bread together™.

Together we can help break barriers.

Happy Birthday to us and the Breaking Bread community!
